Starting 1.4.17 account hierarchies - which were part of LedgerSMB for a looong time already - will now be used for financial reporting: balance sheet and income statement. In addition to grouping accounts into the subgroups defined by the hierarchy, amounts are aggregated up the tree as well. This article demonstrates how to use this feature. Scroll all the way to the end to see what happens if you don't want to update your configuration (yet).

Changelog for 1.4.16
This marks an incremental, bugfix release for the 1.4 series, and corrects a number of problems with the employee/user workflow. Anyone using LedgerSMB 1.4 in a multi-user environment should probably upgrade as soon as possible. A number of other fixes were made in relation to Starman usage and a few in areas relating to application setup.
As was to be expected there was an issue with 1.4.8: given the issues 1.4.8 corrected - and the changes required to do so - it was important that they were fixed and by consequence to accept the -likely- chance of regressions. Unfortunately this regression poses significant issues which explains the emergency release.
This release corrects handling of employees on Add Contact menu item. The employees can now be managed entirely through the Contact menu. This also improves on the business unit system, allowing for multiple top-level units per class, and includes many other improvements to the user interface.
