LedgerSMB Talk Notes

Recently, I did a talk at the Greater Toronto Area LUG (GTALUG) on LedgerSMB (experiencing MySQL problems at time of posting, tsk-tsk, should have used PostgreSQL ;-). Since I'm not an accountant, the talk focused mostly on the history, architecture and future of the project. Some of the folks at the talk asked if I could provide them with the slides that I used. Nothing fancy, just typical point-form talk stuff. I've uploaded it to the LedgerSMB site for anyone who is interested.

Clarification on the SQL-Ledger license change debacle

Just to provide some history for folks who read about the license change and don't know the context.

When SQL-Ledger 2.8.0 was first released, Dieter Simader changed the license to a custom copyright license. This was eventually covered on Slashdot.

At some point slightly after the story hit Slashdot, the license was changed back to the GPL. I am happy that whole unhappy episode is in the past and hope there are no repetitions of it.

Best Wishes,

It is clear

You can fork sql-ledger like other did before. The question is what happens after. Are you willing to develop on the fork to get new features or not.
If you don't have time, it maybe better for you and your customer not to fork and work with sql-ledger to gether go get new releases.

I have used SL for fews

I have used SL for fews years.
Really DWS Systems is not intrested to turn the script better.
See the Sourgeforge Mailing, constantly decreasing or the new forum with less 50 subscription.

BTW, on pros and cons Chris wrote SL is no longer GPL (Anti-fork)
